Armadale Farm
Joyce Campbell runs this hill farm in the far north of Scotland. Part of the land she manages called The Flow Country, has just been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is the world's most expansive blanket peat bog, storing more carbon than all the UK’s forests and woodlands combined.
Together with my husband Ian, we run a herd of suckler hill cows and breed Aberdeen Angus store calves. We also have a flock of pure North Country Cheviot hill ewes. We are in the process of restoring over 1000 acres of Peatland. We also let out two holiday cottages, which are on the North Coast 500 route..
What is so amazing about working with British wool? We don’t have many dealings with British Wool, other than dropping our clip off at the local hauliers. In the past we have hosted training for sheep shearing and wool handling for the Wool Board. But now The Wool Library buys our Hogg wool and has turned it into tweed and throws. I’ve had curtains and cushions made from this tweed and have our sheep wool throws in the cottages too.
Do you have any hero farmers or people in your supply chain you would like to highlight? Colin Mcgregor who used to organise training through the Wool Board.
