Rotmell Farming -TorraMor
We are a regenerative farm with sheep, cows and chickens under the Rotmell Farming Umbrella, TorraMor is our clothing business that launched in 2022 as we didn’t want to import outdoor kit for our farm workers. We wanted British made robust sustainable clothing that matched our Ethos. TorraMor was then born, we have designed outdoor jackets and smocks for ladies and men and our newest product is a wool filled gilet which is made in Scotland. The Gilets material is dyed and finished in Dundee and the gilets are manufactured in Cumbernauld so the smallest carbon footprint we can manage.
All our clothing is made in the UK and gilets in Scotland which and we are so proud to support the UK’s manufacturing industry.
What is so amazing about working with British wool? We are so proud to be using British wool in our gilet range, we farm sheep and to be able to use a byproduct for our ranges is so important. Wool in the UK is going through a really hard time due to overseas manufacturing of synthetic materials; to be able to support the industry in some way and to see the impact the range is having on our customers is fantastic. Wool is a self regulating temperature material and this is giving our gilets the edge on others available in the marketplace.
If any/ what have been your challenges with working with British wool and a local way of working? As we use the wool as the infill for our gilets we have had very little challenges as we don’t need a dying process to support the product.
Do you find a lot of push back in the industry in terms of working with British wool? The manufacturers that we use actively promote wool in their products and were delighted with the range of wool available to us.
Do you find that customers are becoming more interested in British wool? Yes we have had a lot of interest in the Gilets and they have sold very well and part of this is due to the wool infill and not using synthetic materials.
On a scale of 1- 10 (1 being the lowest and 10 excellent) how much do you think your business has improved in the below areas as a result of good working practices and environmental standards?
Energy Consumption - 8 (shipping, machinery and low carbon footprint)
* we don’t actually manufacturer garments but sustainability is at the heart of everything that we do.
Do you have any hero farmers or people in your supply chain you would like to highlight? We would mention ourselves at Rotmell Farming headed by Alex Brewster.
*We hope to continue to grow and launch new products that will continue to support UK manufacturing with many ideas on the table currently. The main factor that we continue to overcome is that our manufacturing costs are much higher than those of competitors that have their products manufactured abroad, we take the hit on profit margin ourselves in order to sell products that are Made in Britain at a competitive price. Our products however show what real craftsmanship and we very rarely have any issues with our garments quality.
We are proud to be a leading British made brand and are looking to continue on our growth trajectory, in the next few years we will continue to grow our online presence and trade at prestigious events across the UK.
